GovernorsThe School Governance Regulations 2003 set out a new framework for the constitution of governing bodies. The size of the governing body will range from a minimum of 9 to a maximum of 20.
There are four types of governor:
Parent Governors Staff Governors (including the Headteacher) LEA Governors Community Governors
The definition of “parent” includes step-parent, guardian or other person having parental responsibility of a registered student. The period of service as a governor is four years. The Governing Body usually meets on a Tuesday at 4.00 p.m. and governors usually attend ten meetings per year.
The work of the governor is very important to the life of the school and all parents are contacted when vacancies arrive to see if they wish to offer themselves as a Parent Governor.
