On Wednesday 18 November 2009 a group of year 8 students spent the afternoon at the Records Office in Stafford. The aim was to study original historical documents relating to the English civil war and especially its influence on the Stafford area.
These documents are unique, being hand written and give us a valuable insight to life during this period for both soldiers and civilians. Every care has to be taken not to damage them so clean hands are essential and only pencils are allowed in the room.
The students took to the tasks set with enthusiasm. They worked well together, supporting each other with the difficult bits but having fun at the same time.
By the end of the afternoon a number of questions about the civil war and how it affected peoples lives around the Stafford area had been answered and everyone returned to school having found the whole experience very different and interesting.
