Curriculum - Art - Departmental InformationDepartmental Information
We believe that the value of Art for all students is enormous
Art provides students with a unique opportunity to develop visual literacy through observation. This is a basic skill from which understanding comes.
The acquisition of skills and the ability to express ones self, within the context of the knowledge and understanding of other cultures and art forms, are essential factors in the development of an active and inquisitive mind.
The ability of the child to understand and use visually communicated ideas, is fundamental to becoming part of the fast moving society we live in. It is essential to be able to interpret the images and symbols, which constantly surround one.
In a multi-cultural society, pupils are to be given as many opportunities as possible to experience art from other cultures, through working with artists in residence, workshops and culturally inspired assignments. Pupils work from artefacts from a variety of cultures to increase their understanding of the role of art and artists in different cultures
