Technology Department Aims & Objectives
The overall aims of the department relate directly to the aims of the school. • To maintain and stimulate student curiosity, interest and enjoyment of technology • To enable students to be familiar with technological knowledge, principles and vocabulary • To enable students to understand and use practical skills safely • To enable students to work both independently and as part of a team • To enable students to develop personal skills such as perseverance, initiative and independence • To use teaching methods and a variety of resources that enable students to have equal access to all aspects of technology • To develop the students understanding of interaction and implications of technology within our society and our environment • To allow students to develop informed opinions about technological issues • To prepare students for advanced vocational studies or further education within technological areas

The essence of Design and Technology reinforces the schools aims as it is directly concerned with skills for life and designing and making to meet human needs. The skills developed should enable students to function effectively in a rapidly changing technological word.
Technology offers great opportunity for students to undertake holistic problem solving activities. Knowledge and skills gained enable students to produce high quality artifacts using a variety of materials whilst working safely. Students of all abilities can gain great personal satisfaction and enjoyment from their activities.
In all areas of the department students are encouraged to be critical of their own and peers work. The department seeks to encourage high standards and to celebrate success for students of all abilities.
