Art Department Homework Policy
Key Stage 3
Homework for all Key Stage 3 students is set according to the school homework timetable.
Students receive the equivalent of 1 x 30 minute homework assignment per week.
This may be:
• Research into an artist (contemporary, historical) • Research another culture (India, Africa, Oceanic) • Observational drawing assignment (focus on a visual element e.g. line, tone) • Design work for an assignment • Review or evaluation of students own work in an assignment • Preparation for a future lesson • Writing up a new technique learned (printmaking, batik, paper making)
GCSE
Homework for all GCSE students is set according to the school homework timetable.
Students doing the GCSE Art and Design course are expected to complete 3 hours of homework per week.
Students are set specific tasks. These may be in their sketchbook and will include:
Presentation of information about an artist/culture studied Observational drawing tasks Experimentation with media and materials Development of coursework ideas Review and evaluation of a unit of work Explanations of visual elements Composition ideas Techniques tried Process of working Evaluation of completed work
AS/A2
Homework for all AS/A2 students is set according to the school homework timetable.
Students are expected to complete 5 hours of homework per week.
Students are set specific tasks, usually in their work book, these will include:
Research into an artist Observational drawing tasks Development of personal ideas Experimentation with media and materials Composition ideas Review and evaluation of a unit of work Annotation of work Preparation of work book pages In depth analysis of the work of specific artists
