History Department Homework Policy
All students are expected to complete homework in accordance with the whole school policy. The department recognises the importance of homework as means of: - reinforcing skills, ideas and work covered in the classroom - encouraging all students to take an active role in planning and delivering appropriate tasks - extending the learning experiences of more able students whilst supporting the work of those who are less able - helping students to recognise that learning is an ongoing process not confined to the school environment We aim to implement these principles by: - setting homework in accordance with the whole school homework schedule - linking homework to classwork - providing opportunities for differentiated tasks - marking homework regularly with constructive feedback - longer term assignments may be set over several weeks - a range of tasks might be set involving research, responding to source material, written tasks, watching TV programmes etc. - students who fail to complete homework should be interviewed initially and if no improvements follow, a detention may be given.
