Speaker, Dr Graeme Jones,Keele University - "Sex Flies and Smelly Sticky Tape. Community Event for all

Dr Graeme Jones gave an interactive presentation on how insects communicate using chemicals called pheromones. For example how a female gypsy moth could attract a male over 2 kilometres away with her pheromones. There were hands on samples of pheromones used by complex societies such as ants. Samples were given to the audience to smell including the danger smell for ants and the food smell for ants. The children enjoyed the equipment used during the talk and danced with molecules!
A spokesperson for Walton High School said "We were so pleased with the turn out, particularly the number of families that came along. It was great to see those families working together and enjoying science based activities"
